A mat in shape for years - how to care for it?

Are you practicing on a Joy in me yoga mat? We're thrilled. To ensure it lasts, it's important to take proper care of it. Below are a few tips for cleaning and caring for your JOYINME yoga mat .

First, regularity.

For hygiene reasons, we recommend cleaning your mat after each practice. This is important if you practice at home, and even more so if you're setting up your mat in a yoga studio. Simply pack a cotton cloth in your bag and wipe the mat with a damp cloth after your practice. Do not roll up a damp mat. Leave it unfolded until it's completely dry.

Secondly, gentleness.

In case of more persistent dirt, it is worth wiping the mat more thoroughly.

With the exception of the FLOW Coated mat , all FLOW mats are machine washable at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Remember not to tumble dry them or use detergents. Instead, add lemon juice or soap nuts.

How to clean a mat with an anti-slip coating?

FLOW Coated MatDue to the non-slip coating, we recommend hand cleaning only. It's most convenient in the bathtub or shower. Clean it with a sponge or cloth dampened with water and a solution of something like lemon juice, white vinegar, or a drop of tea tree oil, which has very strong antibacterial properties. You can also add a drop of your favorite natural oil to give the mat a pleasant scent. Citrus notes work great—orange, lime, grapefruit, but also lemon balm or lavender. The principle is the same—wipe the mat on both sides with a damp cotton cloth, and then wipe it again with just water.

Cleaning the PRO mat

PRO mats with a polyurethane top layer, which provides excellent grip, should only be cleaned by hand with a cloth and lemon juice, white vinegar, or mild dish soap. We recommend against using natural essential oils, as they may leave marks on the mat. After wiping both sides of the mat, wipe it again with water only. To keep the mat nice and clean, remember not to use body lotion immediately before practice, as this may leave marks. If this happens, don't worry; the streaks will gradually disappear with regular cleaning.

Third, patience.

There's no need to rush when drying your mat. A rolled-up, damp mat won't dry thoroughly. It's also best not to rush it by exposing it to strong sunlight. Prolonged, direct exposure can shorten its lifespan. Leaving it near a stove or radiator, however, can warp. This takes time. After cleaning, leave the PRO and FLOW Coated mats flat or hang them on a drying rack and wait until they're completely dry.

After washing, you can wrap the FLOW mats in a towel and drain excess water, then unfold them or hang them on a drying rack.

DIY Natural Yoga Mat Cleaner

We mentioned natural cleaning methods. Gentle on your skin while effectively caring for your mat's surface. You can make this cleaning solution at home, pour it into a spray bottle, keep it on hand, and use it whenever needed. How do you make it?

What you need:

  • Filtered water
  • White or apple vinegar
  • Spray bottle
  • Natural fragrance oil

Step by step:

  1. Fill a spray bottle. Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to 100 ml of water. The scent will oxidize, but for sensitive noses, we recommend the apple scent for its more delicate, fruity note.
  2. If you want your spray to smell nice, add 2 drops of your favorite natural oil. We recommend tea tree oil, as it has strong antibacterial properties.
  3. Close the bottle tightly. Gently stir the liquid.

That's it! Just a few simple steps will keep your mat clean, well-maintained, and ready for years to come.

Good practice.
